1 week agoI do believe that I am in the path of the hurricane that`s on it way here. The Myrtle Beach area has been blasted before and me and my house have stood up just fine. Only lost the electric once for any period of time - 3 days. Cooked on the grill. Now I do have many batteries for our lights and a Coleman camp stove to use for the frying pan and make coffee. The Days Inn about 1 and 1/2 hours up the road in Dillon takes dogs and my wife might go up there. I guess some roff shingles might blow off my house in a 125mph or better wind but there still should be a dry place here so I`m sticking around. Will let you folks know what happens when it does.

1 week agoI hope y`all make it through alright, McG.
1 week agoI been trying to keep an eye on the path of that hurricane, and the last I saw the eye part is supposed to come ashore somewhere in the very northern part of North Carolina coast or the lower part of the Virginia coast. It is on about the same track as hurricane Isabel, that did lots of damage here at my house in 2003 I think it was $26,500 , I had 6 oak trees blow over on my house and mess up my roof, also about 20 more oak trees blown over in my yard, was out of power for 2 weeks. The insurance company screwed me too, I only received $13,500 from them the rest out of my pocket. And FEMA said I made too much money to get any help from them, but the feds never complained when I was paying all those extra taxes.
This storm is supposed to be worse than Isabel, I am hoping that it will turn and go out to sea. I guess at this point it is just a waiting game.
At least I am not as close to the coast as McG and Moscooter, but like I said the main part of this storm appears to be passing north of them.
Good Luck to you Gerry and Ash...

Well, it will be around Wed. or so before we get the best and most accurate idea as to the path. I`m not too excited yet. Will make sure I have plenty of beer on hand and maybe some extra water too.
I do not anticipate any problem with Tues. golf, but it`s pretty "iffy" as to our plans for Friday golf at this point. Just got a new roof put on around 6 months ago, it cost me $2500 deductible as the cause was "hail damage" and the total bill for the new roof was over $25,000.
Unless this one is predicted to be a CAT 4 or more, I`ll probably stay home and ride it out. I think our place is high enough to not get flooded given the surrounding landscape. My experience in past major storms here is that the heavy winds come in from the back side. While the front of our house is pointed fairly at the coast line, the incoming winds circle around and come in BIG TIME on the back side (golf course side) of the house.
1 week agoFrom what I saw at 11:00pm news - it might track to the Cape Fear river.
Whatever happens - I sit here and read my book and ride it out. No sweat. I`m too old to be concerned.
1 week agoWishing y`all the best. Haven`t had to go through that since we left Florida.
1 week agoMoscooter, I have not seen the weather today, played senior league this morning, played sorry shot 87, with no birdies. Anyway the earlier projections I saw had the hurricane as a CAT 4 when it hit the coast sometime Thursday late or Friday morning.

Yup, our weather out of Wilmington, said the CAT 4 would likely only be a CAT 3 as it got to the coast.......either way, I`m thinkin` we might have to cancel golf for Friday.
We play tomorrow if possible, and then I`ll look into any last minute needs as we get closer. Stay tuned.
1 week agoFilled my spare propane tank today. I also have the Coleman camping stove ready. Plenty of batteries for lights too. This thing will be no problem. Many people plan to leave/evacuate, and the other half is staying with me. It is now expected to land north of Wilmington, N.C. About 80 miles north of me.
VT - sharpen up your chain saw - you are gonna about to have plenty of fire wood.
1 week agoNot looking good, Gents.

At this point, we plan to hunker down and ride it out. Forecast takes it right up thru the whole state....no sense heading to Raleigh or most any other that direction. heard that all motels/inns in Charlotte are already fully booked.
1 week agoI was out the past couple of days in the grocery stores here, all bottled water is long gone, and batteries are fast disappearing. I was in Lowes home improvement today and they were busy selling batteries , generators, saws, extension cords and such. I just fired up the generator and the wife said she was going to let the youngest son use it because he had two freezers full of stuff. And I said I`ll be damned if that is going to happen, I am the one that has kept the thing maintained and running like a top for many years now. Still looks and operates as new. Today it started on the 2nd pull. I ran it for about half hour until it ran out of fuel.
I told her we had all kinds of **** in our refrigerator and the freezer outside, and I was going to use the phucking generator here. She told me that she paid for it and I said if you paid for it it was with my money, so the generator belongs to me. Phucking*******is crazy, then she said don`t you even care about him he is your son. Damn a bunch of crazy azz women.
