5 months agoI finished my Nighthawk Custom build tonight. I cut the Novak rear sight dovetail, front dovetail and serrations and installed sights. Now to get it to the range to align the sights.

5 months agoI like it, I could tell you cut the dovetails yourself, it probably looks better in person without that zoomed in blownup picture, But I love what the sight picture is going to be and the adjustability of it. GOOD JOB!!!!
As a sidebar, I thought this sight was a goner, I have not been able to get on here for about two weeks, tried several times , at different times of the day almost everyday. Thought I would give it a try today and Wala, there it was made me happy!!!!!!!!!!! glad we are still here yeeehaaa!!!
5 months agoThank, VT. The stainless steel is very hard to cut. The carbide cutter is the only way to get it done.
I thought the Zone might be gone but then its back.
5 months agoIf you did that with a handheld tool you did an outstanding job, It would take some balls even to start a job like that on a nice pistol, especially if it is with a handheld tool. However you did it, if that was the first try at something like that the results were outstanding!!!!!!
Been semi busy today, walked a little over two miles a bout 2 hours ago, been trying to get out and walk every day, going on 3 weeks now. Will be 71 next month, do not want to get sedentary, so I just try and keep on moving while I can.
Will check back in later or tomorrow and see if we can keep a little chatter going here.
Starting to see some motorcycles head south, the Daytona rally officially starts tomorrow. Runs 3/8 - 3/17 , hope they have great weather...
5 months agoHey VT. No hand held tools. I used a milling machine to do all 4 pieces. My end mill was chipped so it wasn`t as clean as I had hoped for. All in all I am happy with the whole pistol since it was a box of parts 2 months ago.
Glad you are staying active. I think that helps mentally and physically. Either way its good to keep going.
I`ll have to try Daytona one of these years. Never went when I was stationed in Florida.
5 months agoDave, being a mechanical guy I know you would enjoy that rally more than any other that you have ever attended. Daytona is unparalleled for motorcycle parts of all kinds and ages. I saw swap meets all around Daytona and the surrounding area with more motorcycle parts that in all of the other rallies I have attended put together. Motors, sheet metal painted and unpainted, new and used, frames, electrical from wire to whole bike wiring harnesses , gas tanks, frames, tires, wheels, old and new. Just anything motor or performance wise, trannies new and old, Just a cornocopeia of parts for any and all types of motorcycles. Never seen anything like it anywhere else, anywhere in the USA.
On the nighthawk pistol, I am not familiar with that name brand, but it is a nice looking pistol. I do know Colt and Springfield, and I know that there are lots of people who make a 1911 45 auto clone.
5 months agoI`m sure I would enjoy it, VT. Florida is always fun anyway.
Nighthawk is a custom 1911 maker. Think Les Baer or Ed Brown. My kit cost me $1,200 and then I had to build it.
5 months agoDave, You know I had forgotten you had taken that course in gunsmithing. It is good to see that you are getting to put some of that training to use.
I had thought about going to Daytona earlier on , but I decided not to go. Not missing not going either. will only be two more months before the Myrtle beach rally rolls around. And I already have my reservations there and it is paid for already. Staying up in North Myrtle beach this year.
5 months agoBe sure to contact me Randy and I`ll meet you somewhere for a tea.
5 months agoI`m done with school in May. I have two more rifles to build before I`m done.
I`ll have to try to swing a Myrtle Beach trip some day.
5 months agoWell Dave, don`t wait too long before you come to Myrtle Beach. Ain`t none of us back this way getting any younger. I will be 71 next month and McGinnis and Moscooter both are older than I am. Come on back east before we all get too old to go out and meet you somewhere while you are back this way.
For the better part, the weather down there is great in May, but you might encounter some rain, but these days hell it is raining everywhere.
5 months agoAnd Gerry, I will give you a call while I am there, I will be staying in North Myrtle this time , so I will not be far away at all.
