6 months agoI worked on my old tundra again yesterday, I have already taken off the old rear bumper and reinstalled it. Yesterday I took off the front bumper and I am still in the process of preparing to put the new line-xed one back on. It has lots of fasteners on it. Some of which were rusted in place, I had to cut one of the main bolts that hold it on to the truck with a cut-off grinder, it would not come loose and I rounded off the nut.
I would have finished it yesterday but I had another problem, when the guy line-xed the new bumper he did not tape the mounting studs up and the threads on the mounting studs were covered in line-x. I want you to know that is some touch stuff, I havent` quite finished yet getting all the threads clean with a wire wheel on a cordless drill.
I also sanded the inner braces too the bumper and cleaned them real good with solvent, then I sprayed them with black plastidip paint, it looks real good now. The braces had some surface rust on them that you could see through an opening in the bumper. Now it looks brand new, and well protected too.
I ordered new fog/driving lights also and I will install them onto the bumper before I put it back on the truck.
I also removed the top and bottom plastic trim from the old bumper and I have to clean them up and re-blacken them before I reinstall them back to the top and bottom of the new bumper. Each one of those has about 10 mounting bolts to attach it to the bumper top and bottom, and the top piece also has those plastic pushpin fasteners that go across the top inside under part of the bumper.
It was quite a little job, especially with all those rusted nuts and bolts, but I am getting it done slowly and surely.
The guy already painted my new tailgate once and it got trash in the paint when a fan came on in the spray booth, he still hasn`t repainted that yet , and has not painted my two new front fenders either. Still waiting, I told him I was in not hurry, have other vehicles I can drive. That way he won`t charge me too much, and he also hasn`t line-xed my truck bed or the fender flares yet either.
I will take pictures when I get the front bumper on.
