April 2, 2011OLblue,
Thanks for asking, the doctor said my esophogus looked a little red and inflamed, he thought I was starting to get acid reflux again. So he gave me a new prescription for pantroprazole a generic for Protonics. He also took 3 biopsies and I have to call in two weeks to get the results. The doctor did not seem too concerned with what he had seen , more concern about the reflux and the redness in the esopogus than anything else. I will let you guys knwo abou the biopsies when I get the results.
April 2, 2011Good deal. you will be in my prayers.
April 2, 2011thanks alot man, I really appreciate it.
April 3, 2011VT - You are still too young and tough to have a bad problem.
April 3, 2011Hope you`re okay.
I`ve got to go in for tests for GI esophogus and GI swallowing function/video swallow,as I`ve had problems swallowing on and off since they removed nearly all of my thyroid when they took out that humongous growth last Feb along with a sore throat and hoarseness a lot.
I think I need a stronger anti acid before I get acid reflux.
Sure ain`t no fun getting old,but then again the only alternative is getting dead.
April 3, 2011You got that right BIW. Getting old is definitely not for puzzies!
April 3, 2011I will be 63 this month guys, I am getting older ,but I thought I was in pretty good shape for my age. I do not have alot of aches and pains and I stay fairly active. I can still rack up the miles on my bike, and I have done several 1,000 mile plus runs in 24 hours the past year and a half. I get tired a little quicker than I used to , but hell I guess I am supposed to. I have had a real problem with acid reflux over the years, and I had that fundoplication operation in 2003, and really have not had any probelms with it since, but lately I have been coughing some and had reflux a few times the past year so I figured it was coming back
All that drinking and puking I used to do did not help that situation any, I do not drink anymore been 8-1/2 years ,but the damage was done before I stopped. I guess if you play you pay. But I plan on being around for quite a while yet, like I said the doctor did not seem concerned with the biopsies he was more concerned with the redness from what he thought was more reflux.
Bitwa, I have had all of those test, radioactive eggs and then lay still for 1-1/2 hours while they watched them digest, and have had saunagrams, tubes and lights and all kinds of instuments ran down my throat to test different functions before I had that surgery in 2003. I had really enjoyed not having to take any reflux medicine or antacids for the past 8 years, but I just hope this takes care of it. Before my operation I got where I could hardly eat anything without throwing up and I lost down to about 180 lbs, hardly a night went by that I did not wake up choking at least one or two times with the reflux so bad I threw up. And I would not dare eat anything past 5 in the evening, it was really bad.
April 3, 2011That does sound like some bad schitt! I`ve done some of the over indulging over the years. Does have an effect on a person. I am more of a sipper now, still enjoy good bourbon, moonshine and beer, but in moderation. Time tends to teach us all valuable lessons if we live through it.
April 3, 2011Glad to hear you`re staying on top of this.
April 4, 2011The results are in!!! no cancer. I just got the results back this morning the doctors nurse called me. She said they wanted me to come back in one year, because he saw a slight change in some cells in my esophogus but nothing major, just as a precaution they are putting me on one year check schedule now.
All of my blood test from my regular doctor came back good too, the only thing that was bove normal was the trigliceride level in my blood was slightly high, every thing else was in good shape. I have an appointment for my semi-annual physical Thurs. of this week.
The biggest change here is he saw evidence of some acid reflux, and he put me on pantoprazole a generic for Protonix. I have not taken any of this type of medicin since before my surgery in 2003. But hopefully this med will take care of that problem and all will be back to normal on the next upper endoscopy.
Thank you all again for your concer and your prayers.

That`s good news. I still have to deal with annual checks myself and it`s always nice to hear that all is OK.
I`ve had some of that damn acid reflux myself the last two yrs or so, but apparently not anything as major as what yours sounds like it was at one time. I`ve bounced around from zantac, to prevacid and a few others.
It must be a fairly common problem given all the damn ads on TV for all the different "meds" wanting your $$$ for their stuff to cure it or relief the symptoms.
